Leif Garrett's Rehab Extended

Leif Garrett
HOLLYWOOD - Former teen idol Leif Garrett has been ordered to stay in a live-in drug rehabilitation center for another month, after telling a Los Angeles judge he was beating his demons.

The 44-year-old singer checked into rehab last month after failing a recent drug test, which violated probation from an arrest for cocaine possession in 2004.

At his progress hearing on Thursday, Garrett asked the Superior Court commissioner if he could transfer to an outpatient treatment so he can spend time with his ailing mother.

He said, "I'm going down the right path. Instead of a dirt road, I've been on a paved road."

In January, Garrett was charged in a separate incident, after police allegedly found the fallen star to be in possession of heroin on a Los Angeles underground railway train. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.

Garrett is set to return to court next month.
