HOLLYWOOD - Hollywood star Mel Gibson maintains he is still avoiding alcohol after he was photographed enjoying cocktails at a bar in Bali.
The Braveheart actor, 51, vowed to stop drinking alcohol after he was caught driving under the influence while speeding in Malibu, California, in July 2006.
He entered a recovery program for alcohol abuse the following month and was ordered by a judge to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings up to five times a week for a year.
But the actor denies he has returned to the bottle.
A spokesman for Gibson says, "He was in Bali and he was not drinking alcohol. He was drinking those non-alcoholic virgin cocktails that are made in those island resorts.
"People should not be so quick to assume things. Unless he (Gibson) is there drinking water, coffee, tea or soft drinks, they're hawking misleading photos."
