TV Tidbits: 'Girl Meets World' Finds its Shawn, Brenda Song Teams Up With Seth MacFarlane

Brenda_SongGirl Meets Best Friend: Disney Channel's Boy Meets World reboot, Girl Meets World, has found Riley Matthews' best friend — the Shawn for the show's new Cory, if you will. Thirteen-year-old actress Sabrina Carpenter has been cast as Maya Fox to 11-year-old Rowan Blanchard's Riley. Maya is an only child and has never known her father, which makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her. She is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting the people in her sphere. A little bit edgy, she is as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her. [THR]

Song's Getting Funnier: Brenda Song is the first actor cast in Fox's new multi-camera comedy series from Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild and co-writer/director/star Seth MacFarlane. The untitled project centers on two successful guys in their 30s who have their lives turned upside down when their nightmare dads unexpectedly move in with them. Song, who just began an arc on New Girl, will play the guys’ strange assistant who has an entitled sensibility. The series already has a six-episode order. [Deadline]

The Witching Hour: Lifetime has given a series order to drama Witches Of East End, starring Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rachel Boston and Mädchen Amick. The 10-episode series will premiere later this year. Based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling novel, the show centers on the adventures of Joanna Beauchamp (Ormond) and her two adult daughters Freya (Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid (Boston) — both of whom unknowingly are their family’s next generation of witches. [Deadline]

Full Political House: John Goodman is set to star in Alpha House, one of Amazon Studios’ first six original comedy pilots. The comedy follows four senators who live together in a rented house in Washington DC. Goodman will play North Carolina Senator Gil John Biggs, a large man with large appetites. His cranky sense of entitlement comes from years of being revered as a successful basketball coach, but when the Duke basketball coach decides to run against him, he finds his Senate seat in jeopardy.
