"Glitter" plans crumble for Carey

HOLLYWOOD - Mariah Carey's breakdown might have affected the release date of her new film Glitter, which marks her starring debut.

Glitter's release date has been bumped to next month, 20th Century Fox has announced.

Glitter, starring Carey as an aspiring pop singer, was to open Aug. 31. Fox has now pushed it to Sept. 21, The Associated Press reports.

Even though the studio hasn't given the details as to why the release date was pushed back, it might be because Carey cancelled her publicity tour for the film, along with other public appearances after she checked herself into a hospital last month.

The singer's upcoming album, also called Glitter, was scheduled for release Aug. 21, but its now unclear if it will be delayed to coincide with the movie's opening date.

The 31-year-old singer checked herself into a New York hospital July 25 after suffering what her spokeswoman, Cindi Berger calls "an emotional and physical breakdown."

On Monday, Berger told AP that Carey's condition has not changed since she began undergoing psychiatric care at an undisclosed facility.
