TV Guide has exclusively learned that Grey's Anatomy will once again be teaming up with the cast of Private Practice in another crossover episode called "If, Then," which is scheduled to air in mid-February. And while I'm not a huge fan of the occasional crossover, I can't deny that this particular storyline has piqued my interest.
Like the title implies, this episode will deal with various "what-if" scenarios in the form of a dream sequence, showing Meredith what her life would've been like, had her mother not gotten sick and died. You know what that means: get ready to re-experience the wrath of the mighty Ellis Grey! Additionally, we will also get to see how things would've played out between Addison and Derek if the two of them had never split up...which is where part of the crossover comes into play. And you gotta admit, it'd be pretty interesting to see, and I'm not just saying that because I miss Addison dearly (even though I really do!).
But the co-mingling of the hit dramas doesn't end there -- Private Practice's Amelia (McDreamy's sister) will also be heading to Seattle Grace for a portion of the episode. And while plot details about this side of the story are particularly scarce, whatever ends up happening will cause Derek and Lexie to re-appear in the Private Practice hour of the crossover. I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess, it probably revolves around Amelia and Derek working through their issues (since they haven't exactly had the best brother-sister relationship, thanks to Amelia's past addiction problems). But now that she's getting clean and sober, I'm sure the two of them will have plenty to catch up on. Either way, it's looking to be an episode you won't want to miss. Double the hour, double the drama!
Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday at 9/8c followed by the midseason premiere of Private Practice at 10/9c on ABC.
