Teenage gymnast Shawn Johnson has become the youngest ever winner of TV talent show Dancing with the Stars.

The 17-year-old saw off competition from actor Gilles Marini and The Bachelor star Melissa Rycroft after the contest was whittled down to three for Tuesday night's finale.

Rycroft was voted off first, leaving Johnson and Marini to battle it out for first place.

Last year's trophy was won by TV personality Brooke Burke.
