HBO Votes For Julia Louis-Dreyfus As ‘Veep’

Julia Louis-DreyfusAs The Onion has so rightfully pointed out, the Vice President is easily the funniest political position a person can have. The President is too important (especially if something bad happens, sorry That’s My Bush) and who cares about the Speaker of the House? Vice President it is!

Which explains why HBO has picked up the pilot Veep starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as a Senator who discovers the Vice President’s job isn’t as awesome as it seems to be. This project comes to us via Armando Iannucci, who co-wrote and directed In The Loop. And if Veep comes anywhere near the level of pure black comedy and satire that In The Loop (and the TV show it sprung from - The Thick of It) managed to create, this show will be awesome.

And honestly, how could it not? Louis-Dreyfus is a fantastic comedy actress. The series costars Anna Chlumsky as her chief of staff and Arrested Development’s Tony Hale as her right hand man (but honestly, those sound the same). In addition, Matt Walsh from the Upright Citizen's Brigade appears and that’s just the icing on the cake.

My one hope is they avoid the obvious Palin jokes because let’s be honest. Palin as VP? That’s a tragedy, not a comedy.
