Normally you hear of people wanting to leave the country for business or pleasure, but Halle Berry just wants to protect herself. E! News has confirmed that the Oscar winner has filed a request in family court to be able to move to France with her daughter Nahla because she fears for her life. Sounds pretty serious, right? That certainly seems to be the case.
So what exactly is she worried about? Apparently Richard Franco (don't worry, no relation to James Franco) -- who was convicted of previously stalking Berry -- has been released from prison early on good behavior (he was supposed to serve 386 days, but got out after 193). He still remains on five years' probation and there's a 10-year restraining order in place requiring him to stay away from Berry and her family, however, that doesn't seem to be enough as far as Berry is concerned and she wants out of dodge ASAP. Berry stated in her criminal complaint against Franco: "This person has invaded and trampled upon the most fundamental sense of security I have and I am extremely frightened of him and what he might do to me and those I love."
But in order to be granted permission to take her daughter, Nahla, to France, Berry will have to show a judge proof that she has a pressing reason to relocate, especially given the fact that it will take the little girl so far away from her father, Gabriel Aubry -- whom Berry has recently been up against in a custody battle. The court might just see it as her way of taking matters into her own hands and removing her daughter from her ex-husband's life in a round-about way. Hey, you never know with these things.
