Halloween Strike Threatens Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD - Hollywood is set for a major scare this Halloween: If union screenwriters can't reach a deal with employers by Oct. 31, they'll strike.

Members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) have voted by an overwhelming majority to hit picket lines and bring Hollywood production to a crawl if ongoing negotiations with studio bosses aren't concluded by the end of the month.

More than 90 percent of the 5,507 members who voted opted to strike on Friday. The WGA has more than 12,000 members.
