Hanks, McAvoy, Berry, Portman Riding Tykwer's 'Cloud'?

The Playlist, citing Production Weekly, reports that offers have gone out to Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen and Natalie Portman for Tom Tykwer's adaptation of David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas, a book with six main characters that spans thousands of years and several genres.

The Wachowskis are producing the project with an eye towards a production start next spring.

The report states that there are no deals as yet with no sign if any of the actors will actually commit although their schedules for next year are relatively clear.
