HOLLYWOOD - It can be assumed that Mary-Kate Olsen, like the rest of the the world, is still mourning the loss of her friend Heath Ledger. And, it's not selfish to say that at some point his friends and family will try to get back to normalcy while still remembering him.
Unfortunately, with insurance companies and lawyers at her heels the grieving process has been interrupted.
Ledger's insurance company has refused to pay on his $10 million policy by claiming he died under "suspicious" circumstances and now wants to quiz his friend Olsen over his death, a lawsuit filed by the Dark Knight star's estate charges reports the New York Post.
Lawyer John LaViolette, who represents the trust set up for Ledger's 2-year-old daughter, Matilda, has sued ReliaStar Life Insurance Co., accusing it of acting in bad faith by trying to avoid paying the claim and wrongfully snooping into the actor's life.
The city medical examiner ruled that the 28-year-old Brokeback Mountain star died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs but ReliaStar is insistent on continuing the investigation and pursuing the possibility of him taking his own life, which would void the claim
ReliaStar has informed Matilda's lawyers that it intends to take depositions from Olsen, as well as the masseuse who was at Ledger's SoHo apartment when he died, and his agents and doctors.
The Post reported in August that Manhattan federal prosecutors closed their probe into Ledger's death without any charges being filed. Everyone connected with Ledger and his death has been interviewed - except Olsen, officials said.
Matilda's lawyers claim the request violates California law, which prohibits insurance firms from re-examining applications after the policyholder dies.
