HOLLYWOOD - Socialite Paris Hilton turned down the option of serving her 23-day sentence in an upmarket jail to prove she is "like everyone else."
The hotel heiress began her jail term for violating her probation following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest after turning herself in to Los Angeles Sheriff authorities last night at 10:30 p.m.
Hilton claims she turned down the option of attending a "pay jail."
Speaking yesterday, she said, "I did have a choice to go to a pay jail.
"But I declined because I feel like the media portrays me in a way that I'm not and that's why I wanted to go to county, to show that I can do it and I'm going to be treated like everyone else.
"I'm going to do the time, I'm going to do it the right way."
