HOLLYWOOD - Jennifer Hudson is being tipped to star in a new Broadway revival of the hit musical Dreamgirls, after her award-winning performance in the film adaptation.
Producers are meeting in February to discuss bringing the hit musical back to the New York City stage.
According to the show's composer, Henry Krieger, a lawyer representing the estate of original Dreamgirls director and choreographer Michael Bennett has arranged a meeting next month to discuss plans for a revival.
Krieger tells the New York Post, "We think it's time. All is good."
Although Krieger claims it's too early to discuss casting, theater insiders say Hudson is rumored to be reprising the role of Effie White onstage.
Hudson, a self-described "theater baby," recently picked up Golden Globe and Screen Actor's Guild awards for her performance and is reportedly eager to sign on.
The original production of Dreamgirls opened at the Imperial Theater to rave reviews in 1981.
