Indian gunmen, planning to kill actor, are killed by police

HOLLYWOOD - Four gunmen who reportedly planned to kill Indian actor-producer Aamir Khan and two other actors who appeared in the hit film Lagaan were shot and killed by police near Mumbai (Bombay) on Saturday, the Times of India reported today.

The newspaper said that the gunmen were members of a gang headed by Abu Salem, a notorious figure who has reportedly attempted to grab control of top Bollywood productions.

In February police claimed that Salem had been responsible for the murder of Indian actor Dinesh Anand. The Times said that Khan had recently been threatened with death by Salem if he did not hand over overseas distribution rights of Lagaan.
