Jackie Chan Hits Out at Taiwanese Press

Jackie Chan
HOLLYWOOD - Martial arts actor Jackie Chan has attacked the Taiwanese press for twisting

his words when he criticized last year's controversial elections, although

he apologies for any unintentional hurt caused.

The Rush Hour star caused an uproar when he described the election, which saw

President Chen Shui-Bian triumph despite allegations of a voting discrepancies,

as "the biggest joke in the world".

But Chan insists his words were manipulated and taken out of context.

In a five-page open letter to the Taiwanese media, Chan says, "There have

been a lot of reporters who are still asking me about the so-called

'turbulence' I have caused.

"I, Jackie Chan, am a big man and... would take responsibility for what I

said. But I cannot accept that some people who purposefully took certain words

from me and developed them without limit, twisted them and arbitrarily put

charges on me."
