HOLLYWOOD - Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson is reportedly planning to release an awe-inducing 3D version of his King Kong remake shortly after the standard version hits theaters on Dec. 14.

The Lord of the Rings director has set Californian 3D specialists In-Three to work on bringing the larger-than-life monster movie into the third dimension, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The popularity of Imax cinemas has seen a new wave of 3D movies emerge in recent years, and film giants George Lucas and James Cameron are both currently working on 3D projects.
