‘James Bond’ Composer John Barry Passed Away

John BarryFive-time Oscar winning composer John Barry passed away in New York late Sunday afternoon after suffering a heart attack. He was 77. While best known for his work with the James Bond series, he also scored and received critical accolades for such films as Out of Africa and Dances with Wolves. Although there was some contention as to the authorship of the “James Bond Theme” (resulting in Monty Norman receiving sole credit), Barry’s involvement with eleven Bond films resulted in the distinct Bond sound. Having received an Order of the British Empire in 1999, Barry was one of the greatest film composers of his generation and his contributions will be sorely missed.
