James Mangold To Direct ‘The Wolverine’

james mangoldThere are certain things I’m willing to overlook and forgive. Making Knight and Day is not one of them.

Despite having also directed the excellent Girl, Interrupted, 3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line, choosing James Mangold for The Wolverine is just preposterous. He made Knight and Day! That’s a blemish that can’t be unblemished! Anyway, Hugh Jackman is happy with Mangold's body of work, and after the original director Darren Aronofsky dropped out this may be a decent choice if the decent version of Mangold shows up. He seems to do well with stories set in alternative time periods (3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line) and since The Wolverine takes place mostly in Japan years before the events of the original X-Men film there is a sliver of a chance it’ll be better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine (but considering how shitty that movie is if you get his claws looking remotely decent and don't fart on screen for two straight hours it’ll be better than that garbage).
