Jason Bateman: He, Robert Urich

HOLLYWOOD - We have seen the future Robert Urich and his name is Jason Bateman.

Yes, just as the oft-employed Urich kept turning up on TV series ("S.W.A.T.") after TV series ("Vega$") after TV series ("Spencer for Hire"), so goes the former "Hogan Family" demi-icon.

Word comes today that CBS has ordered six episodes of "Kiss Me, Guido," featuring (natch) Bateman, as a midseason replacement for the 2000-01 season.

In "Kiss Me, Guido," Bateman, now 29, will play a gay guy rooming with a straight guy (Danny Nucci). Hijinks ensue. It's based on the 1997 indie comedy of the same name.

For Bateman, "Guido" will be the actor's eighth career series, dating back to a season-long run on "Little House on the Prairie" in 1981.

To top Urich, he'll have to get cast in another series, get canceled again, get cast in another series, get canceled again and then get cast in yet another series. That would add up to 11, and that would best Urich.

Assuming Mr. "Gavilan" doesn't start working again.
