HOLLYWOOD - British actor Jeremy Irons has blasted Star Wars mastermind George Lucas forusing computer-generated imagery (CGI) simply for the purpose of wowing
audiences with unreal scenery.
The veteran star of film and theatre accepts advancements in technology mean
the art of movie-making is forever changing, but he's urged young directors to
focus more on characters and plotlines than CGI.
And Irons pinpoints Lucas as a prime example of everything that's wrong with
the use of computer images in film.
He tells Britain's Empire magazine, "Computers are now working so seamlessly
with action and you have characters that you care about.
"So we've been through that age--hopefully, George Lucas--where all you
care about are the computer images, and don't give a f**k about the story or
the characters."
