Deadline.com reports that Irish director John Carney (Once) is in talks to helm the drama Dogs of Babel. Based on Carolyn Parkhurst's bestselling novel, Babel follows a linguistics professor who becomes convinced his wife's fatal fall from a tree was no accident. To aid his investigation into her death, he attempts to train the family dog -- the only witness to the accident -- to talk. Steve Carell signed on to star in the film in February.
