Kardashians, Pippa Middleton & Katy Perry Top Barbara Walters' 'Most Fascinating People of 2011...

The Kardashians Red carpetEvery year, Barbara Walters sits down with the 10 Most Fascinating People from that year and interviews them at length. It usually represents a bit of an at-a-glance look at pop culture and media over the past year. ABC just announced Walters' 2011 list, and if it's any indication, our country is in some serious trouble. Completely absent is anyone relevant to the state of the nation, international politics, the arts, literature, or hot button issues. Instead, the list is overrun with reality television stars and a Duchess' sister more famous for her (perfectly adequate) derierre than any of her own accomplishments.

Past years have included people like General David Petraeus, Mark Zuckerberg, Sarah Palin, J.K. Rowling, Bill Clinton, and Anna Wintour in addition to your typical Hollywood fare. However, this year the list is a little more glitzy and a little less robust. Of course, as usual, the 10th and final Most Fascinating Person will be kept a secret until the special airs - let's hope whoever it is makes up for the lack of depth in the rest of the list. And while we're at it, I'm not sure Walters' people can count - unless they're counting Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian as one person...

The special airs Dec. 14 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Here's the list of 2011's Most Fascinating People, according to Walters:
