Kate Middleton is everywhere. She's even in places where she isn't. Though this might sound like a reality-altering paradox, it's actually just a simple issue of Photoshop. The cover for the August 2012 issue of the fashion magazine Marie Claire South Africa has gone public, featuring Middleton as the covergirl of the month. But here's the thing: Middleton didn't actually pose for the picture. The image, as Marie Claire South Africa's editor Aspasia Karras tells The Huffington Post, is "actually a hyper-real illustration of Kate, meant to be a fan art tribute to fashion's new royal icon."
It's not too surprising to hear about a celebrity getting a few aesthetic touch-ups for a magazine cover appearance, but this is a much less common occurrence. What makes matters more interesting is that earlier in July, Middleton was the subject of another Photoshopping incident on the cover of the Australian magazine Women's Day. Everyone wants the Duchess of Cambridge to represent their publications... they just don't always have her there to do so. But dedicated artists/Middleton lovers will not be stopped.
Marie Claire doesn't seem to be out to deceive. In addition to Karras' statement to HuffPo, the actual cover of the mag reads: "Fashion's New Royal Icon Wears SA's Best Local Designs," with an asterisk leading to, "Of course she doesn't. But she should." The magazine's honesty is refreshing, and furthers the idea that they really are interested in paying tribute to the royal family's beloved new member.
