Oscars 2012: Kermit and Miss Piggy to Present

The MuppetsThe great Muppet resurgence might be settling down, but we're not entirely done fawning over our perpetually upbeat friends from the imagination of Jim Henson. Deadline reports that Muppet top bananas Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy will be presenting at the 84th Annual Academy Awards. The sensation that was their Jason Segel-scripted 2011 film The Muppets is itself up for an award in the category of Best Song for it's somber, but comedic "Man or Muppet," as performed on screen by Segel, Walter and Jim Parsons.

Although America will be glad to see Muppet presenters on stage, this doesn't quite make up for the ceremony's lack of a Muppet musical performance. A great deal of outrage followed the announcement that the awards show would not feature a performance of either Best Original Song nominee (the other being "Real in Rio" from the animated feature Rio). Segel even took to Twitter, instituting a petition to allow the Muppets to sing at the Oscars. In one Tweet, the actor/writer joked, "We need to start a riot."

Hopefully, his dreams will come to fruition. But either way, at least we won't have an Oscars completely devoid of rainbow connectivity.
