HOLLYWOOD - Heath Ledger went public with his sleeping problems in a New York Times interview late last year.

The tragic actor was found dead in his rented New York apartment on Tuesday, and reports suggest sleeping pills were strewn all over his home.

An autopsy on his body will not start until Wednesday, but early indications suggest Ledger's death was drug related.

The Aussie star was reportedly found naked and unconscious on a bed, with prescription and non-prescription sleeping pills on a table nearby.

And in a Times interview conducted in November, the troubled actor admitted his workaholic nature was keeping him awake at night.

He said, "Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night. I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going."

Ledger revealed his work as clown-faced villain The Joker in Batman film The Dark Knight had left him physically and mentally drained.

He told the Times he had taken sleeping medication Ambien in an effort to catch up with lost sleep, but it had failed to work on his exhausted mind.
