Lionsgate To Distribute 'Dredd,' 'Safe,' & 'Protection'

Lionsgate loves their explosions.

The studio just made a three picture deal with IM Global and is set to distribute the production company's upcoming action films including Pete Travis' Dredd, Boaz Yakin's Safe, and Simon West's Protection.

Safe stars Jason Statham and is currently in production. It will be the first title released of the three, but has no date. Dredd is based on the comic book series and stars Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby. It will be shot in 3D, starts production in South Africa on November 12 and will cost $45 million. Protection has Dwayne Johnson locked to star and a March start date. Expect a 2012 release for both of the latter projects.

All three of these films will no doubt be thrilling adventures. I'm not quite sure what to say about them since their plot details are a little thin, but I think it's safe to say they won't be Oscar winners. However, I am sure that they'll be really fun and full of the three keys elements to making a financially successful action film: guns, explosions, and boobs.

(Hehe, I said boobs.)
