HOLLYWOOD - Director George Lucas has thanked his old film tutors by awarding the university he studied at a $175 million cash gift.
The Star Wars creator credits the University of Southern California with giving him the skills he needed to become a Hollywood legend.
Now he's repaying his mentors by funding a new state-of-the-art home for the university's acclaimed cinema school, among other projects.
He says, "My experiences there shaped the rest of my career.
"I'm very fortunate to be in a position to combine my two passions and to be able to help USC continue molding the futures of the moviemakers of tomorrow."
Lucas graduated in 1966.
