MacGraw spent scary 65th birthday at Mexican retreat
Now 72, the Love Story actress admits she was filled with terror as her birthday approached and decided she didn't want to celebrate it with family and friends.
She tells Town & Country magazine, "I went to a retreat in Mexico. I always write a very personal journal when I travel, and I took coloured pencils this time. Whenever I came to something really scary, I'd write it in red or orange, so I couldn't avoid it.
"(I wrote), 'Oh my God, is my life almost over?' I cried a lot. That was a traumatic birthday, but I felt like I did this amazing operation on it. It was like an exorcism."
