Magazine awards swept by "New Yorker"
HOLLYWOOD - The New Yorker magazine won five awards in its class at the National Magazine Awards on Wednesday, including the highest award, general excellence for a magazine with a circulation of 400,000 to 1,000,000, the Associated Press reported. This continues a new trend for the New Yorker, which grabbed three honors last year. The New Yorker also received awards, called "Ellies" after the elephantine figures designed by Alexander Calder, for art reviews; for a profile of Rom Pompeil, the infomercial king; for an essay by Adam Gopnik, the Paris correspondent; and a "special interest" award for a sports-only issue.
