Many New Yorkers may have a long wait for TV's return

HOLLYWOOD - It will take between one to three years before New York television stations

will be able to bring their television signals up to the strength that they

maintained from the transmission tower of the World Trade Center, Newsday

reported today, citing WNBC-TV engineering director Steve

Pair.

Although earlier reports had indicated that some 1.7 million people in

New York City who do not have access to cable were only able to watch

WCBS-TV following the attacks (the CBS-owned station maintained a backup

transmitter atop the Empire State Building), Newsday reported that

the tower collapse actually affected some 4 million viewers without cable

living in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut).
