McAdams & Tatum beat Washington & Reynolds to claim U.S. box office number one
All four major new movies - The Vow, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Safe House and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace - all took in over $20 million (£12.5 million) to break box office records - but McAdams' new movie came out on top.
Based on a true story, the actress plays a car crash victim who awakes from a coma with no recollection of her husband, played by Channing Tatum.
Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds' new thriller Safe House came in second with an impressive $39.3 million (£24.5 million) take.
