McGregor In, Depp Out of Don Quixote Movie

Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor has signed on to replace Johnny Depp in director Terry Gilliam’s extremely long-in-the-works Don Quixote movie.

Depp was cast over a decade ago as a time-traveling advertising exec, but following a string of mishaps -- as seen in the 2002 documentary Lost in La Mancha -- and, well, the release of three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, he has been forced to drop out of the recently revived project, and McGregor will take his place.

McGregor will star alongside Robert Duvall, who is set to play Quixote.

Gilliam had this to say about McGregor: "There's a lot of colors to Ewan that he's not been showing recently and it's time for him to show them again. He's got a great sense of humor, and he's a wonderful actor. He's wonderfully boyish and can be charming -- when he flashes a smile, everybody melts. He wields it like a nuclear bomb!"
