HOLLYWOOD - American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee is taking a break from her fledgling music career to co-produce a new stage play.
The 22-year-old is working on the drama Red Herring, which tells the story of death-row prison inmates, and it is being staged as part of New York City's 10th International Fringe Festival.
She tells MTV, "As soon as I read this play, I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of.
"Audiences know me best from American Idol but my passion has always been theater."
The show will run at the Connelly Theatre from Aug. 12-26.
