Melanie Griffith Hits Detox

HOLLYWOOD - Actress Melanie Griffith has checked into a hospital program in Marina Del Rey, Calif., to combat her addiction to prescription drugs taken for a neck injury, her publicist announced Tuesday.

"My doctor has referred me to the Daniel Freeman Hospital to step down from the prescribed medication that I have been taking for a neck injury," Griffith said in a statement. "I appreciate everyone's concern, and I am sure that you will respect my and my family's privacy."

According to Reuters, the 43-year-old actress will likely go through a 12-step program at the hospital. The actress had once gone through rehab back in the late '80s to treat a drug and alcohol addiction.

Griffith, who is married to actor-director Antonio Banderas, was scheduled to appear on ABC's morning talker "The View" this morning. But the actress had apparently called the station Monday to cancel her appearance, an ABC spokesman told Reuters.

Griffith was last seen on the big screen in the John Waters comedy "Cecil B. DeMented."
