Nothing like reading a little celebrity news to help gain some perspective on life. I remember being mortified when I was younger because both of my parents were teachers at my school. It was so embarrassing and I thought my parents being at school with me was going to ruin my life, but after hearing about this story I feel I may have been a little overdramatic about the situation. Proving that things could always be worse, Minka Kelly opens up about her relationship with her mother in the October issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and the complications it presented due to the fact that she was a stripper. Kinda puts my whole parent-teacher problem to shame.
Minka admits that most of the time she had to be the responsible one while growing up since her mom, Maureen Kelly, had a slightly altered outlook on life. The Charlie's Angels star describes her mother, saying, "She was 5'11". Legs up to her ears, gorgeous. She got along on that for as long as she could." Kelly says her mother would sometimes wake her up in the middle of the night after getting home from the strip club and they would go shop at the supermarket. Minka recalls, "That was like our big Friday. She would want me to skip school [the next morning]… I was like 'No, Mom, I've gotta go to school!'"
Maureen chose to raise Minka as a single parent even though her father -- former Aerosmith guitarist Rick Dufay -- wanted to try to make it work as a family. But the actress claims her mother was "too busy having fun." Sadly, Minka's mother died of colon cancer 3 years ago in 2008, which seems to have left the star a little bitter, commenting, "That's detectable. Talk about being reckless and not paying attention to your body." But even though there may have been some hostility and issues between this mother/daughter pair, at least they ended on good terms. She recalled, "By the time [my mom] passed I was holding her. I was with her until her last breath. We made it."
