NBC is top dog

Hollywood - Following what was believed to have been an intense bidding battle among the networks, reality-show-challenged NBC announced Tuesday that it had picked up the British game show Dog Eat Dog. Although the network did not announce a date for the show's launch in the U.S., it is expected that, like The Weakest Link, it will be imported intact from England, including host Ulrika Jonsson, making it possible to mount the show quickly. Although Jonsson is a popular "presenter" in Britain -- she also hosted the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest -- the Swedish-born BBC personality is virtually unknown in the U.S. NBC's announcement came on the same day that Nielsen released its ratings for Monday night showing that The Weakest Link had made a major rebound, regaining the viewers who went elsewhere during the previous week when ratings dropped about 20 percent.

CORRECTION: In Tuesday's edition, we reported that The Ambush was the first short film from five top directors to be presented on the BMW Web site. We credited the film to David Fincher. The actual director is John Frankenheimer. Fincher produced the film.
