New BBC chairman named
HOLLYWOOD - Gavyn Davies has been named to succeed Christopher Bland as chairman of the BBC board of governors, touching off complaints of political cronyism by the Conservative opposition. Davies, a member of the Labor Party, resigned his position as chief international economist and managing director of Goldman Sachs, although he said he might continue as a consultant. In a statement, he insisted that "impartiality is uppermost in my mind."
