Nicolas Cage Joins 'Medallion'

ALT TEXTIn news that won't surprise anyone, Nicolas Cage has now signed on to star in another action thriller. This time instead of using the Declaration of Independence as a treasure map, or stealing cars in under 60 seconds, or switching faces with John Travolta, he's just looking for a taxi cab.

The film, penned by David Guggenheim -- the former US Weekly editor who just broke into Hollywood with his script for Safe House -- is titled Medallion and will be directed by Simon West (who previously collaborated with Cage on Con Air). Before Cage nabbed the role, there was interest from both Clive Owen and Jason Statham, but apparently West needed someone with a bit more selling power.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story follows a father -- a former thief -- who must quickly find his daughter who's been kidnapped in a medallion taxi cab trunk somewhere in New York. How riveting!

On top of pretty much stealing the plot line from Taken, this flick doesn't sound too original. The only thing we can hope for is that the production will lead to more footage of Cage losing his shit, whether it's in the movies or in real life.
