No Plans for 'Gossip Girl' Spinoff

HOLLYWOOD - The makers of Gossip Girl have denied they are planning to launch a spinoff series of the hit TV show.

Executives at The CW, on which the series airs, were reportedly planning to capitalize on the program's success and launch a secondary show featuring one of the main characters.

The hit teen drama is based on books of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar--and the novels were followed by a spinoff book series called It Girl.

But Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Schwartz has dismissed the rumors, insisting the TV network will not take after the author's lead.

Schwartz says, "Not sure how this got out there--but no plans for spinoff at this moment. The books do have a spinoff, but we have nothing in the works right now other than making sure season 2 gets off to a great start."
