HOLLYWOOD - Actress Mary-Kate Olsen has broken her silence following the death of her close friend Heath Ledger by offering her condolences to his family.
The 21-year-old actress, who was linked romantically to the actor, was the first person called by the masseuse who found the Brokeback Mountain star's body in his New York apartment on Tuesday.
In a statement, Olsen says: "Heath was a friend. His death is a tragic loss. My thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time."
Police confirmed on Friday that they have no plans to interview Olsen over the circumstances of Ledger's death.
An autopsy carried out on Wednesday failed to reveal how the actor died, although officials believe his death could be drug-related since five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment.
Meanwhile, a representative for the late actor has confirmed that "there are no plans for a public (funeral) service."
Although it has yet to be confirmed, it's believed Ledger will be buried in his native Perth, Australia.
