'Pan's Labyrinth' Top-Nominated Film at Ariel Awards

HOLLYWOOD - Fantasy movie Pan's Labyrinth has received 12 nominations for the 49th Ariel Awards in Mexico, including Best Picture and Best Director for Guillermo Del Toro.
The Spanish-language film is also nominated for Best Cinematography, while Maribel Verdu is up for Best Actress at the ceremony, which will take place at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts on March 20.
A total of 11 Mexican movies will fight for Ariel Awards.
Facing Pan's Labyrinth in the Best Picture category is Cronicas, directed by Sebastian Cordero and produced by Del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron, and Francisco Vargas' The Violin. Both filmmakers are also nominated as Best Director.
The Violin has seven nominations, while Cronicas has picked up six.
