Paramount Picks Up ‘The Mighty’ Comics

the mightyI think I’m one of the few people who actually like comic book and graphic novel movie adaptations. The world of comics is way more open to originality and creativity than the movie industry which means that if you have a really good idea for a comic you are more likely to get it published and seen than say, if you have a really good idea for a superhero movie. And if your idea is really, really good it’ll get the attention of movie studios that really like pre-branded stories with built-in audiences and your original and creative story can then be made into a movie. Really, it’s a win for everyone, unless your comic book gets turned into Jonah Hex.

Anyway, Paramount picked up the rights to DC’s The Mighty. Again, it’s an original story that sounds really fucking interesting and has the necessary ingredients to make a kickass movie. It follows a mortal police officer who begins investigating the world’s superhero, Alpha-One, and discovers a dangerous plan in motion. It also doesn’t help that Alpha-One saved the cop when he was a kid. You couldn’t pitch that as a movie, but since it’s a comic and it's already spelled out with fancy pictures, the studios ate it up and now it’ll be a movie. Hooray for the melding of business and art!
