Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick were stunned when doctors informed them they were to become parents to twins - because they would have felt blessed with just one baby.
The couple spent several years trying to conceive a sibling for their six-year-old son James Wilkie.
They eventually turned to a surrogate mother to help them expand their family.
Parker admits her long struggle to have another child left her feeling drained and she tried not to get her hopes up about becoming a mother again.
She was shocked when she learned the procedure had been successful, and admits the couple was still reeling from the news when they were told they were in for a double surprise.
She says, "We didn't expect it. I think, after a certain amount of time, you tend to hold your hopes at bay so as not to be disappointed. One would have been thrilling and we would've felt lucky. And two was a comedy!"
