Patty Jenkins
was
rumored to be the front runner
to direct
Thor 2
last month, and now it's official.
The
Monster
director will replace
Thor
helmer
Kenneth Branagh
-- who
announced his departure
in June -- on the sequel, becoming the first female to direct a movie for Marvel Studios.
Chris Hemsworth
,
Tom Hiddleston
and
Natalie Portman
will all return for
Thor 2
, which will hit theaters on Nov. 15, 2013; it was originally scheduled for release on July 26 of that year.
