Think of your two favorite Paul's (not including McCartney). If you've come up with Rudd and Giamatti, then prepare to be thrilled by Lucky Dog. The developing comedy film by the genius Phil Morrison, who created the masterpiece of human interaction that was Junebug, will star the magnificent (and terrifically dissimilar) pair of Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti, in addition to Sally Hawkins (Jane Eyre, Submarine).
Lucky Dog's plot is impossibly more invigorating than its involved parties. The story centers on two longtime partners in crime (literally) whose personal relationship has begun to sour. Despite their growing animosity toward one another, the two con-men (presumably Rudd and Giamatti) decide to pull one last job together: selling Christmas trees in New York City.
First of all, there's something truly wonderful about the idea of criminals using Christmas trees to make a dishonest fortune. Secondly, a corrupt team consisting of Paul's Rudd and Giamatti? The sweetest, most likable man in the world teamed with a venerable chameleon of the big screen? Nothing is impossible with this formula. And as Sally Hawkins continues to make a name for herself in Hollywood, we realize more and more just how welcome an addition she is to our consciousness.
All in all: we are quite fortunate for Lucky Dog.
