Trailer for Not-'Alien'-Prequel 'Prometheus' Packs Lots of 'Alien' Easter Eggs

Since Prometheus was announced, there's been an endless back-and-forth between director Ridley Scott and writer Damon Lindelof and the people of the Internet. The looming question: is the movie a prequel to Scott's seminal 1979 sci-fi flick Alien? The answers were…ambiguous.

"It's a prequel to Alien."
"It's not a prequel to Alien."
"It's kind of a prequel to Alien."
"But not really."
"But sorta."
"Alien, God, love that movie."
"But that's not relevant."

The thinking, as we draw closer to the movie's June 8, 2012 release date, is that eventually light would be shed on Prometheus' mystery. Clarity would be found. But after a few images, a poster that pays homage to Alien and the newly released trailer (which you can watch below), the film's connection to the otherworldly horror movie is still up in the air.

A chamber full of pods reminiscent of the Alien eggs, something harming one of the astronauts inside his helmet, a certain horseshoe-shaped spaceship, that giant guy sitting in the chair…maybe it's not a prequel to Alien (the stories may not link, there may not actually be Aliens), but there's no denying the films are intrinsically connected by their respective worlds.

Let me also say this: the movie looks incredible. Big action, crazy sci-fi and some fantastic talent. Consider me pumped. Watch the trailer in HD at Apple.

Prometheus, starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Noomi Rapace, hits theaters next summer. Hopefully then we'll have a good idea of what it's about!
