HOLLYWOOD - Heath Ledger's publicist has spoken out against rumors of the late actor's alleged drug use--branding the claims "heinous lies."
Mara Buxbaum, who worked for the star before his sudden death, insists the Brokeback Mountain actor was never addicted to hard drugs and is outraged over the media speculation surrounding the 28-year-old's tragic passing.
Video footage of Ledger partying with two strangers at a Hollywood drug party was aired on Wednesday--and although the scenes don't show the late star indulging in any illegal activities, the TV shows involved have decided against broadcasting any more of the tape out of respect for Ledger's family.
Several Web sites have also reported claims that Ledger's fiancée, Michelle Williams, ended their relationship over an alleged drug habit.
But Buxbaum is quick to stress the rumors are not true.
Buxbaum tells the New York Daily News, "(The story is) fabricated... just one lie among many. The speculation is heinous."
Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment on Jan. 22.
An autopsy failed to reveal how he died, although police believe his death could be drug-related since five different bottles of prescription drugs were found around his apartment.
