'Python' Star Terry Jones Has Cancer

HOLLYWOOD - Monty Python star Terry Jones has been diagnosed with bowel cancer and is to undergo surgery within the next few days.

The 64-year-old has been admitted to a London hospital with 21-year-old girlfriend Anna Soderstrom at his bedside; however, doctors believe they have caught the tumor at an early stage.

The comedian was told he had cancer only days before the opening of the Spamalot musical in London on Tuesday, which is based on the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail film. Despite the diagnosis, Jones was able to attend the premiere with the original cast, which included Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam.

Jones' agent, Jodi Shield, says, "He is having a routine exploratory operation in the next few days. His surgeon is fairly confident--they think they've got it early enough.

"He's in great spirits. We're having to make him stop working."
