R. Kelly Gets Emergency Throat Surgery

r. kellyR. Kelly is flying -- all the way to the emergency room. According to his spokesman, the R&B singer underwent emergency throat surgery and will be unable to perform for an indefinite period of time. The singer, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was in severe pain and was rushed to a Chicago hospital on Tuesday where doctors drained an abscess on one of his tonsils (ew). The I Believe I Can Fly singer just completed the U.S. leg of his worldwide "Love Letter" tour and by the sounds of things, it could be a while before he is able to perform again. Kelly tweeted a week ago saying how he didn't want to take anymore medicine, "I feel like my throat is coming back. I've been in bed sweating like crazy. Thanks guys." Apparently, he was wrong.

Kelly may be a well-known performer and singer, but in the most recent years his music
career is often eclipsed by legal troubles. For example, in 2008 a Chicago jury acquitted him of child pornography charges, and recently court documents showed he was a year behind on mortgage payments for his mansion in Chicago. Man, talk about Karma coming back and biting you in the -- in this case -- throat. Here's to a speedy recovery!
