Reeve Carney to Play Jeff Buckley in New Biopic

Reeve Carney, star of the perpetually troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has been chosen to star in a new Jeff Buckley biopic, the film's producers announced today. Directed by Jake Scott (Welcome to the Rileys) and written by Ryan Jaffe (The Rocker), the as-yet-untitled film will chronicle the short, tumultuous life of the critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter, who died at the age of 30 in a mysterious drowning accident. Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert, will serve as executive producer on the project. Filming is set to commence in November in New York and Memphis.

Carney, who was recently seen (by about twelve of you) in Julie Taymor's re-imagining of Shakespeare's The Tempest, is an accomplished singer-songwriter in his own right: His band Carney opened for U2 during their most recent tour.
